My name is Hesam Mahmoudi and I am a postdoctoral fellow with joint appointments at Harvard Medical School and the Institute for Technology Assessment at Massachusetts General Hospital. I hold a Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Virginia Tech, an M.Sc. in Management Science, and a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology, Iran.
My research focuses on dynamic modeling of complex systems to inform public policy, particularly in public health, education, and research dynamics. My current work at Institute for Technology Assessment at Harvard involves policy analysis of pressing public health issues, such as the opioid epidemic and low participation rates in lung cancer screenings. During my Ph.D., I examined the research and development strategies of cancer centers, aiming to investigate the dynamics of systemic barriers to clinical trial efficiency. This work contributed to a holistic understanding of the stagnation in cancer research despite initiatives like the Cancer Moonshot.
In addition to my work in public health, I have published research on higher education policies, including studies on tuition inflation and developing complexity comprehension among engineers.
